Roll-on Dispenser Patent Combines Portion Control with Tamper-Resistant Locking

A newly published US patent proposes a roll-on dispensing system designed to deliver controlled amounts of liquid while helping to prevent spills and unauthorised access.

Featured in ThePackHub’s Patent Zone, the concept has been developed by Gennaro Anthony Cuomo, Stephanie Rossi, Andrea Scholer and Morgan Webb in the United States. Published on 10 September 2026, the patent focuses on three main areas: portion control, security and ease of use.

Controlling the amount dispensed

At the heart of the design is a dosing chamber that regulates how much liquid reaches the applicator.

The chamber contains a fine mesh screen and a rotating screen that work together to control liquid flow, with the aim of delivering precise and consistent portions with each use.

The main configuration uses a roll-on applicator, similar to the ball found in roll-on deodorant packaging. The patent also describes an alternative straw-based dispensing system.

By controlling the flow internally, the concept is designed to manage the amount of liquid dispensed rather than relying entirely on the user.

Tamper-resistant push-and-turn mechanism

Security is another important element of the proposed design. A bayonet-style locking mechanism requires the user to push and turn the dispenser to open it, helping to prevent accidental spills and unauthorised access.

Additional features are intended to prevent the roll-on ball from becoming dislodged and to stop liquid from flowing backwards into the container.

Together, these elements combine controlled dosing and tamper resistance within a single dispensing system.

Combining portion control with ease of use

The concept brings several functions together without significantly changing the familiar roll-on format. The dosing chamber controls the amount of liquid released, while the locking mechanism provides an additional level of security.

ThePackHub’s Vanessa Newcomb sees potential in this combination of functions:

There’s some clever engineering in this dispensing system, combining controlled dosing with tamper resistance and a better user experience. It would be great to see this kind of functionality designed into packs that can be reused or refilled multiple times.

As a patent concept, the design demonstrates one approach to managing not only how a liquid product is contained, but also how it is accessed and dispensed.
