Heinz patent combines multiple condiments in a single dispensing system

H J Heinz Company Brands has filed a patent for a dispensing apparatus designed to deliver multiple sauces or condiments into a single receptacle. Featured in ThePackHub’s Patent Zone, the concept brings several condiment supplies together around a central dispensing head, potentially allowing different products to be served into one container during a single dispensing operation.

The patent describes a system with multiple condiment supports, each intended to hold a different product, such as ketchup, mustard or mayonnaise. These are connected to separate passages within a dispensing head through individual fluid transfer systems.

Below the dispensing head is a receptacle receiving area, where a container such as a small pot or tray can be positioned to collect the condiments. The proposed arrangement is intended for high-volume foodservice environments where efficient dispensing, hygiene and portion control are important considerations.

Bringing multiple condiment lines into one dispenser

At the centre of the patent is a dispensing head containing multiple separate passages. Each passage has its own inlet and outlet, allowing the different condiments to remain within individual pathways as they travel from their respective supplies towards the receiving container.

Fluid transfer systems connect each condiment support to the corresponding passage in the dispensing head. When the apparatus is activated, the selected condiments can be transferred through the system and dispensed into the receptacle positioned below.

This configuration is designed to consolidate the dispensing of several products within one piece of equipment rather than requiring each condiment to be handled through a completely separate dispensing point.

For foodservice operators, such a system could be relevant where customers frequently request combinations of sauces. The patent identifies potential applications including quick-service restaurants, stadiums and canteens, as well as other high-volume environments.

Supporting portion control and foodservice efficiency

The concept addresses several practical considerations associated with condiment service. In busy foodservice settings, the speed with which orders can be prepared has to be balanced against portion control and hygienic handling.

By incorporating multiple condiment supplies into a common apparatus, the proposed system is intended to enable several sauces to be dispensed into the same container in one operation. Importantly, the individual passages within the dispensing head keep the fluid pathways separate before the products reach the receptacle.

The receiving area also gives the design a defined location for positioning a pot, tray or other suitable container beneath the dispensing head. This creates a structured dispensing point rather than requiring the operator to move the receptacle between several independent condiment dispensers.

From a packaging perspective, the patent is notable for focusing on the interface between bulk condiment supply, dispensing equipment and the portion container presented to the customer. Rather than introducing a new primary pack for an individual sauce, the concept considers how multiple products can be delivered through a shared dispensing format.

A refill and reuse approach to condiment dispensing

The patent sits within the refill and reuse systems theme of ThePackHub’s Patent Zone. Its relevance lies in the use of condiment supports connected to a dispensing system, with the apparatus designed around repeated dispensing into separate receiving containers.

The design could offer an alternative approach to environments where several condiment varieties need to be made available efficiently, particularly when combinations of sauces are regularly required. Its ultimate role would depend on how the equipment and condiment supply system were implemented in a foodservice operation.

As a patent concept, the development describes a proposed technical solution for multi-condiment dispensing rather than, on the information available, a confirmed commercial product.
